Anti-Pope demonstration as WYD begins (15 images)

August 17, 2011: about 8000 protestors took to the streets of Madrid to protest the visit of Pope Benedict XVI and the cost of the World Youth Days as the country is hit hard by the economic crisis. The Plaza del Sol was eventually packed with protestors, forcing WYD participants to retreat to adjacent streets. Both sides exchanged slogans under control of police forces.
